Nov 14, 2012 Eric Hinkle rated it it was amazing In 1956, William Saroyan published a book he'd written for his daughter Lucy, written from her perspective. He called it Mama, I Love You. The following year there was another one for his 10-year-old son Aram, and this is it. It's hard to say which one I like more,
because they're pretty different (daughter hanging out with mom, son hanging out with dad), but they're both essential for Saroyan fans, or any fan of books with lovable characters saying and doing kind, interesting things. Papa, You'r Papa, You're Crazy is also from the perspective of the child. It's full of wise little nuggets, spoken by the father or his son. The plot is simply the two of them talking, running on the
beach, wrestling, driving to San Francisco, making up new recipes, eating a lot, talking more. At ten, Aram is wise for his years, but he's very believable since he's a Saroyan. He says some zany things, such as this gem: Now, what is food? Why is food so important? Why do human beings need so much of it - three times a day, every day, year after year? Why do they live on food instead of on something else? Wouldn't it be better if human beings didn't need food at all? Wouldn't it be
better if they could live on air, for instance? Get stronger and bigger by breathing sea air, or the air of the mountains, or the forests, or the meadows, or the vineyards and orchards, the wheat fields, the gardens all over the world? Wouldn't that be a better way for men to stay alive? It's a wonderful, touching book. Here are some of my other favorite tidbits: "Wouldn't you care to live twice?" --- Standing there, watching the sun go down into the sea, my father said, "In every house there ought to be an art table on which, one by one, things are placed, so that everybody in that house might look at the things very carefully, and see them." "What would "A leaf. A coin. A button. A stone. A small piece of torn newspaper. An apple. An egg. A pebble. A flower. A dead insect. A shoe." "Everybody's "Of course. But nobody looks at them, and that's what art is. To look at familiar things as if they had never before been seen... A necktie. ถ้าถามว่าชอบไหม เมื่ออ่านจบ .. ก็ต้องตอบว่าชอบ
"ผมรีบแต่งตัวแล้ววิ่งลงไปชายหาด เดินหาอะไรเรื่อยๆ

Mar 09, 2009 Abigail rated it really liked it As always, Saroyan writes about writers and writing. This novel, however, mantains an innoncence that keeps the cleverness from getting out of hand. A kind of pre-coming-of-age story, it lays the seeds of maturity without bringing them to a fullness.

Ближе к 3,5. Сюжета ноль, действия героев странные, не поддаются никакой логике. Но мысли, которые они озвучивают в своих разговорах, стоят того, чтобы над ними подумать :) хорошие, дельные мысли 👍🏻

Sep 15, 2010 Sarah rated it it was amazing Philosophy as told by a ten year old is sweet and naively accurate. The relationship between father and son is admirable, but the lessons to be gained by the reader are the real reason this book should be continuously published and read.

reading Saroyan, and I've been admiring him ever since. His stories, so simple yet so wise and beautiful. The bond of a father and a son pictured here is very touching. Interesting conversations between father and son put in many smaller stories. It is interesting to read the stories because as I believe they are written from the son's perspective who is around 10 years old. You can see how the kid is looking at the world and understands the things that are happening around him and looks for explanations from his father who tries to be as much real with him as possible. literatura y escritor quisiera decirle a su hijo(a) para que pueda admirar el mundo con una mirada diferente y plasmarlo en la temida hoja en blanco... Mucha identificación de mi parte con los personajes, sobre todo por las edades, que son justo la mía y la de mi hija mayor (45-10). Algunos excelentes pasajes y frases. Un trabajo difícil por el hecho de tratar de evitar caer en la frontera de libro demasiado moralista o incluso de auto-ayuda. La leí en una Mucha identificación de mi parte con los personajes, sobre todo por las edades, que son justo la mía y la de mi hija mayor (45-10). Algunos excelentes pasajes y frases. Un trabajo difícil por el hecho de tratar de evitar caer en la frontera de libro
demasiado moralista o incluso de auto-ayuda. La leí en una traducción nada buena en español; me encantaría leerla en inglés. Lo extraño es que, por lo que veo, nadie edita ya a Saroyan y sus libros son MÁS QUE DIFÍCIL de encontrar. Yo lo pude conseguir en Amazon de EUA y una copia usada.

William Saroyan was an American-Armenian author. The setting of many of his stories and plays was Fresno,
California (sometimes under a fictional name), the center of Armenian-American life in California and where he grew up. Saroyan decided to become a writer after his mother showed him some of his father's writings. A few of his early short articles were published in Overland Monthly. His first stories appeared in the 1930s. Among these was "The Broken Wheel", written under the name Sirak Goryan and published in the Armenian journal Hairenik in 1933. Many of Saroyan's stories were based on his
childhood experiences among the Armenian-American fruit growers of the San Joaquin Valley, or dealt with the rootlessness of the immigrant. The short story collection My Name is Aram (1940), an international bestseller, was about a young boy and the colorful characters of his immigrant family. It has been translated into many languages.
