If you're stopped in traffic, apply the park brake, lift your foot from the brake and the car will hold. Traffic starts moving, so press the accelerator and the park brake automatically releases. Works well enough for me in these situations I need it. __________________ BMW F22 M240i; F48 X1 25i, BMW F20 M135i Peugeot T9 308 GTi 270 Renaultsport Megane 3 Trophy-R, Renault Clio Sport 182. 09-16-2016, 07:43 PM 3Lieutenant Drives: X3 30d (2011 F25) - now sold Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: Brisbane, Australia Quote: Originally Posted by ttimbo There is a semi auto hold function...of sorts. What you have described is the auto-release function that every car with an electronic park brake has. In answer to the original question - no I don't think you can. I asked about this when I was looking at the X1 and realised (in our Australian market and apparently yours as well) it didn't have an auto-hold function. While most of the work is just coding, you still need the button to engage auto-hold (which is blanked off in X1s in our market) which works with the coding. And no, there's no coding alternative in any market, so far as I'm aware. Which is as good an answer to the question as anything else. Just can't see the logic in not having it present. I do the same as ttimbo although it's nowhere near as smooth as auto hold and you have to have your foot firmly on the brake or it triggers the stop start when you release your foot from the brake 09-17-2016, 04:56 AM 7Quadrex Drives: W212 Mercedes=Benz E Class Join Date: Jun 2016 Location: Close To German Car Dealer I have BMW i8 ,it doesn't have it either . However, it works when you are on the hill and apply the brake for 2 seconds then you let your foot off the brake pedal without having to press the electronic P button ,the car holds . Slightly touch the gas pedal , the car moves.I find it a bit weird given the fact that it only works only when you're on the incline __________________ 09-17-2016, 08:49 AM 8Lieutenant General Drives: BMW Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: South Africa Quote: Originally Posted by Nivarox I have BMW i8 ,it doesn't have it either . Auto Hold is a bit different __________________ BMW if you are reading, I need a job, Please. 09-17-2016, 08:56 AM 9Lieutenant General Drives: BMW Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: South Africa Quote: Originally Posted by The Beast It's really frustrating that they left this feature off the X1! And your answer is still nonsense - clearly you don't know what auto-hold is. With auto-hold engaged you can take your foot off the brake and the engine remains stopped. Much more relaxed city and town driving. After 5 years of it in our F25 X3 we are very reluctant to go without in our next car. Tony I know I was astounded it wasn't present when I test drove the X1, I have it on my F10 and on my previous E70 too. I appreciate it's a Mini platform but surely it can't be difficult for BMW to add it as it's just a button and some programming. However it wasn't a deal breaker as for us the X1 was a much better vehicle than the alternatives we were looking at... I've got used to using the electronic brake when I drive the car, it's not ideal but workable __________________ Current: VW Transporter Sportline, F48 X1 20i M Sport. Tony BMW's way of getting you to rather buy another X3 or higher. Higher models always have better equipment and fittings. __________________ BMW if you are reading, I need a job, Please. 05-15-2019, 11:22 PM 14Enlisted Member Drives: 14 i3 Rex Join Date: Sep 2018 Location: Kcmo I opened the electronic parking break switch and the switch to turn on the auto hold is there on the circuit board behind the e-brake, it even has the led light. It activates auto hold without the need for any coding, But no actual actuator button is there. The enclosure does not have a place for a button for activation of auto hold. I drilled a hole so I can activate the auto hold switch with a thin metal rod, but that is not the cleanest way to do this, buying switches on eBay to see if any of them can be retrofitted. I'll post photos tomorrow |
